Does a computer have to be connected to a dsl router for it to work?

I have dsl modem connnected to the wireless router for all the laptops in the house. I also have a desktop computer connected directly from the wireless router. If I unplug the desktop computer from the wireless router it should still work for all the laptops in the house, right?

ASCII art time:

DSL router—–Wireless router –(WLAN)– (Laptops)
……………………………..|
…………………….(Wired LAN)
……………………………..|
……………………….(Desktop)

If this accurately describes your network, then disconnecting the desktop will have no affect on the laptops.

How do I connect my POTS line to a DSL modem and my computer?

I have a regular phone line I need connected to my computer and DSL modem. I will also have a recorder set up between the phone and computer.

What ever your reason for doing this, it won't work.

POTS lines are not compatible for direct connection to DSL Modems.

If you have a "Dial-up Modem", then you can connect a phone line splitter in the phone line to the Dial-up Modem – but I don't think you can use a phone recorder in this configuration, unless there is a telephone on the other side of the Dial-up Modem card in your PC for talking when the PC is not connected to the dial-up Internet.

More information is really needed to more clearly answer your question.

How much does your high-speed Internet cost you to be able to play lag-free on Xbox LIVE?

I like to know the mps speed you have and how much you or your parents pay for that high-speed internet?

I ask this, because there seem to be a lot of whiny folks who want an xbox, and want xbox live, and they are upset their parents (during this time of recession) can’t give it to them.

Not surprise about the whinning losers. Xbox Live is full of them. I was playing Madden, and the douche bag quit the game just as I was winning.

We get our internet from comcast, my dad has a home business so, we write the internet off as a business expense. I think it cost about $56 dollars a month.

How can I access broadband internet without a home phone line?

I live in Strathalbyn South Australia and I want to get rid of my home phone line as I rarely use it – but still want to be able to access broadband internet …what are my options and which would be the cheapest for me to do?

Well, a regular phone line would only give you a slow dial up connection anyhow. If you had a modern laptop, that would let you get free broadband, if an unencrypted signal is in range.

Of course, you can also just take a laptop to a wi-fi spot nearby.

But, here’s a gizmo to help you to ELIMINATE your phone bills…

http://www.magic-jack.info/

This is a new service that lets you make unlimited long distance calls for FREE! But, this does require a broadband connection.

It’s using USA phone numbers, but if both parties have one, you can make unlimited free phone calls on any phone back & forth.

You might be able to order a DSL “dry line” (or “naked loop”) so you get broadband, but without any phone service included. At that point, you can use a Magic Jack (or Skype for free too!) as your phone. I love mine at only $19.95 a YEAR for a phone line.

Good Luck!
