I bought a wireless router for wireless connection to my laptop. The desktop PC is connected to the router with ethernet cable and works fine.

Is there something else I need to buy or do to make the laptop enabled for wireless broadband?

turn on the wireless card on your laptop, its either a button or a slide switch, it might be named wi-fi or wlan.
Right click on the network icon on the taskbar, its an icon of monitor > show all networks > click on your router > connect

I have got Connect’s broadband connection which gives me speed between 100kbps to 300kbps according to company. But actually the speed is very less. Can you tell me how to improve the surfing speed?

Sometimes it gets really slow and takes forever load up pages but other times it’s quite fast. I’m not sure what my broadband speed is but I’m with virgin media and I use a laptop wirelessly. What can I do to my computer to speed it up?

Remove all of the programs that you don’t need or use, Microsoft has a plethora of programs that need to be removed.
Delete Temporary internet files cookies and history. It won’t hurt to do it daily. Go to my my documents and file 13 them/TRASH
If you are technically handicapped as I am take it to a pro and have him remove the programs and clean it up it costs about $60 where I live.
Make sure you have a good security system that will not allow you to download a virus without telling you first it has a virus.
